Helios III / city-centre
Avatar
Narrator BOT 01-Sep-24 08:54 PM
The centre of Helios III's biggest city was near-enough empty, anyone who was still around was holed up in half-collapsed buildings waiting for rescue. The rescue that came in the form of the shuttles, all six of them landing around the area. Overhead was the Eventide, it's lights acting like a guiding star to safety. Spotlights shone down from the ship, illuminating the areas that the away teams were operating in.

LIFO, anyone? One was the first out the shuttle, nearest the door and out of it in seconds... they weren't the type to get motion sick, but the turbulence was kinda rough even on them and their nanoprobes. They looked around, hoping to quickly formulate an evacuation plan.

Lt. Five of Eight | OPS BOT 01-Sep-24 08:59 PM
A good call there. At least now, it would be easier to see the evacuation point. Great. Five stepped out to meet the rest of the away team, waiting for any further instruction.

Kya took a breath as she stepped out and looked at the storm. “All right, everyone form up!”

Kiadras jumped up and out, very appreciative of the spotlights shining down onto the area. Otherwise, if she were to wager a guess, they’d be doing it blind, “We have any idea when the eye is gonna pass over us? Or if there…even is an eye?” (edited)

Teno hopped out of the shuttle and grouped up with the rest of the officers, keeping his eyes peeled for anyone to lead to the shuttle. He pulled out his tricorder and started scanning for the closest life signs. (edited)

Cutting off Vrii’s train of thought was the sound of yelling cutting through the roars of the wind. Several drenched people, led by a poor Starfleet engineering ensign came running out of a subway station, the civilians waving their arms to get the rescuer’s attentions

Lt. Cdr. Kiadras Vrii | TAC BOT 01-Sep-24 09:18 PM
Bingo. The Trill hit her hand gently against Teno’s shoulder to get his attention away from his tricorder, and quickly started to make her way over, “USS Eventide! How many injured?”

Lt. One of One | SCI BOT 01-Sep-24 09:19 PM
"None near here, so I would like to suggest working quickly to be able to leave soon." The yell caught them off guard, but it was an efficient reminder to start working. "I believe that is our cue. Don't forget to check rubble for survivors."

Lt. Cdr. Kya Pok | TAC BOT 01-Sep-24 09:20 PM
“Move in.” Kya rushed behind Vrii and quickly began to help the civilians. “And is there anything we can do to assist?”

Narrator BOT 01-Sep-24 09:30 PM
The Ensign yelled back as they approached, his hand shielding his eyes from the torrential rain pouring down on everyone. "Two! One minor Starfleet injury, one critical civilian! They're both still down in the subway!" The Ensign pointed back the way they came - a tunnel, heading downwards into the city's underground subway network. "Have you found anyone else yet?!"

Lt. Cdr. Kiadras Vrii | TAC BOT 01-Sep-24 09:35 PM
“We just arrived! Get to the shuttle craft, we’ve got medical personnel on the Eventide!” Kiadras met the ensign, giving him a smile through his helmet, “You did good, ensign! We’ll take it from here.” Pat pat gently on the shoulder.

Lt. Cdr. Kya Pok | TAC BOT 01-Sep-24 09:36 PM
Kya nodded. “Yes! Get these people clear. Our team can help the other two!” She shouted out over the roar. “Eventide team! Let’s move!”

Lt. Jake Kellan | CMD BOT 01-Sep-24 09:45 PM
Quickly pulling the shuttle in formation with the other crafts, he picked out his landing spot and slowly moved to place the ship down as gently as possible in spite of the raging storm. In terms of difficulty, these were probably some of the worst conditions he had ever flown in. Once he had his shuttle safely on the ground, Jake dropped the ramp, leaving the shuttle in a ready state to move at a moment's notice. The man would walk towards the edge of the ramp, grabbing on a nearby wall to stabilize himself from the wind as he watched the others move for the survivors. (edited)

Narrator BOT 01-Sep-24 09:49 PM
The Ensign nodded, and led the panicked civilians onto the shuttle. The civilians themselves followed behind, giving the Eventide team a flurry of thanks as they went past. A deafening thunder crack blasted through the area as lightning struck the closest skyscraper, sending concrete and glass falling down on the team below.

Lt. Cdr. Kiadras Vrii | TAC BOT 01-Sep-24 09:51 PM
The instructor watched the ensign and civilians move to the shuttle, nodding toward Jake before instinctually raising her arm to block some of the concrete and glass raining down onto the group, “We gotta move!” She yelled overtop the cacophony, moving into the subway system. (edited)

“Everyone into the subway! Now!” She said as she ushered the rest of the team into the subway. “We’ll find the wounded and not die of glass! A good deal!”

Lt. Jake Kellan | CMD BOT 01-Sep-24 09:56 PM
Watching the panicked civilians make their dash towards the shuttle, Jake waved his hands towards them, ushering them into the shuttle as quickly as he could. "Come on! Get in! Sit down in any available seat! Let's go!" The second the lightning struck the skyscraper, the man couldn't help but instinctually flinch at the blinding flash and looking up, seeing the various piece of debris raining down upon them. He would find himself placing his body pressed against the interior shuttle wall as he tried to shield himself from the glass and concrete but his gaze would remain focused on the civilians who may have not made it to an awaiting shuttle yet.
Avatar
Lt. One of One | SCI BOT 01-Sep-24 09:58 PM
"I don't know how- and the suits- nevermind," One tried, knowing that the glass wouldn't harm them with the EV suits on, and herding their entire team into one place could be detrimental. They tried for a different approach instead. "I will stay here to provide aid, please spread out to have as wide a search area as possible. But stay in pairs..." they trailed off.
Avatar
Narrator BOT 01-Sep-24 10:15 PM
Luckily, One's assessment was correct - as the falling glass shards scratched the suits at most, leaving the admittedly small chunks of concrete to bounce off the team's helmets and onto the floor. In all fairness, it did look significantly worse than it was, combined with the biblical lightning. Moving down into the subway station, Vrii didn't have to go far before they found the injured people in question. Leaned up against a ticket machine was a Science Ensign clutching her shoulder in pain, across from a Civilian who was also lying on the ground. The Science Ensign saw Vrii and her face lit up slightly. "I'm okay! But Joe took a hit to the spine, he can't feel his legs."

Lt. Cdr. Kiadras Vrii | TAC BOT 01-Sep-24 10:25 PM
Alright, that didn’t take too long. Hopefully, things would keep moving at least slightly smoother than he thought it would, “Can you stand?” He asked the ensign, pointing Kya toward the civilian.

Kya moved towards the civilian. Joe, hello. I’m Kya, is there anything I should know about your status before we try getting you out of here?”

Five darted over to check on the civilian, checking if they were conscious. "Hey, we're gonna get you out here, okay?" He made no move to pick them up, instead turning back to the group. "Who's got the— uh, flat board thing?"

The science ensign nodded, standing up but still clutching her shoulder. "Yeah, I'm pretty sure I only dislocated my shoulder - Joe managed to pop it back into place, but it's sore. Are the others alright?" Meanwhile, Joe was still leaning on the ticket machine, breathing heavy from the adrenaline. "I trust you all, do what you need to."

"Another ensign made it out with a couple more civilians. Friend of yours, I presume? Heh," The Trill replied to the ensign, offering a hand to help her up, "Let's get you up to the shuttle. Joe's gonna be a-okay."

Lt. Five of Eight | OPS BOT 01-Sep-24 10:47 PM
Receiving the stretcher (thank you, he'd completely forgotten the word for it), he set it down, preparing to move Joe onto it with some help from Kya. "We're taking you back to the shuttle, and then up to Eventide. You're in good hands. Stay calm for me, alright?" It was hard to sound reassuring when yelling over roaring storm, but he did his best. To the shuttle!

"Alright, I will make sure the stretcher is secured. I am unsure of anything specific, but if you have a tricorder, you can scan for life signs. If not, you can borrow mine." One was being kept quite busy with wounded and also questions from civilians they didn't know how to answer politely, so they settled for truthfully. "I will fetch that sling now."

"Have a little faith, One, I know better than to carry them around like a child's toy," Five joked, counting down from three so he and Kya could boost up the stretcher at the same time to get them into the shuttle. Mission accomplished. Rad. (edited)

The Ensign nodded and smiled as Joe was carried into the shuttle. "Thank you, we thought we were done for." She stayed quiet for a second while the sling was put on. "We were part of a bigger group, but we got separated in the subway tunnels."
Avatar
Lt. Zaru Teno | SCI BOT 01-Sep-24 11:16 PM
Teno was still there, doing whatever was asked of him - whether it was carrying the stretcher or helping someone back to the shuttle. He had farmboy strength, so he would be useful in helping wounded get back to the shuttle.

Lt. One of One | SCI BOT 01-Sep-24 11:17 PM
"I didn't know you were there, Five, or I would have adjusted my expectations," One said as they put the sling on the Ensign. "We can send a search team down, to find them. Though they should be safe down there for now, so we should focus on people left on the surface. They are in more danger currently." It was a suggestion, but one worded firmly. It wasn't intended to come across as forceful, but One had done the risk assessment in their head, and spoke what they believed to be the absolute truth.

Lt. Jake Kellan | CMD BOT 01-Sep-24 11:22 PM
As more civilians loaded onto the shuttle including a stretcher carrying a critically wounded patient, Jake would move out of the way of the ramp to give room to the others entering and exiting the spacecraft. He would make himself useful as he moved back to his conn console and pulled up the most up to date sensor information in an attempt to pre-plan his route back and understand the conditions when they took off again. "Does our patient need to return to the Eventide or are we good to sit here a little longer? I'll keep monitoring the storm's condition in case something changes drastically..."
Avatar
Lt. Cdr. Kiadras Vrii | TAC BOT 01-Sep-24 11:24 PM
“Let’s start scoping things out around here and the city proper, then,” Kiadras grabbed another stretcher just in case, though turned to Jake when he asked about the civ with the spinal injury. Fair point… “I…think he should be alright, but that’s your call, Lieutenant. We’ll have five down here still while you’re up. Just contact us over comms when you make your way back down.”
Avatar
Lt. One of One | SCI BOT 01-Sep-24 11:31 PM
"Lieutenant Commander," One called out, tossing their tricorder at Kiadras once they turned around to look at them, "I will stay with the shuttle regardless of what is decided. If you think you can get us up and back down in a timely manner, Lieutenant, I would say treating a spinal injury quickly has our preference, but if it's going to take a long time, I would rather maximalise the amount of people we take up in a single trip." One could immobilise a dislocated shoulder with a sling, but they weren't qualified to be messing around with nerve damage. So getting Joe to the physicians quickly would be preferable, but not to the detriment of the other people in need of evacuation. In the end, they would defer to Jake's assessment of the situation.

Lt. Cdr. Kiadras Vrii | TAC BOT 01-Sep-24 11:34 PM
The Trill caught the tricorder with one hand. Damn, she was good, she thought to herself, “Keep us posted. I owe you guys a drink,” A grin, and she turned to Kya and Five, “Up ‘n at ‘em!” Back out into the storm! She clicked the tricorder on and starts sweeping back and forth.

Team Kyonedras go! Kya shoved with them quickly. “Stay safe! Watch over the wounded!” She said before looking to the rubble. “Damn it, help me dig.” She said, getting to it. It reminded her too much of the graves she dug for the crew of the USS Takei.

Wow, what is he, chopped liver? "Steady, now. Make sure you move all the debris off from the rubble, you don't want to toss more weight on there." Was it in danger of caving in on itself at all, or stable enough to move?

Lt. Jake Kellan | CMD BOT 01-Sep-24 11:43 PM
Looking over the various civilians and the wounded patient, an expression of sympathy flashed over Jake's face, especially looking over the man with the spinal injury. Double checking the conditions for flight and knowing the other shuttles were still on the ground in case the away team needed more equipment and/or assistance, he would look towards Lt. One and nod. "Buckle up then. I'll start take off procedures. We will be home before we know it!" Once the cabin was secure, Jake would pull the shuttle back up into the turbulent weather, obviously taking some risks in his route home to the Eventide. Opening up the shuttle's communication, he would hail the ship. [COMMS] "Shuttle to Eventide. We are on the way back early! Got a number of survivors and one critically wounded patient. Alert Sickbay to prepare for our arrival!"

The moment the shuttle doors opened up, Maya's immediate reaction was a combination of a in internal yelling of 'HOLY SHIT WHAT THE FUCK?!' and 'What the fuck?! Holy shit!' as she stepped out and done all she could to help the others thus far. She joined up with Kiadras to help with the Andorian, absolutely shocked to see the steel beam. "Commander, I think we have to try using the transporter for them... moving them ourselves would be too risky for their condition" Maya suggested as she helped move the chunk of concrete away. "We can try transporting them directly in to one of the shuttles. They're much closer to us than the ship, so maybe there would be less effect from the interference. "

The Trill let out a huff and a small ‘Thank you’ after Maya helped him with the concrete. Now, to the other task at hand. That beam was not moving, and it was already risking this civilian’s life, “That’d be about the same as pulling it out, wouldn’t it? Unless we transport the beam with the patient. We’ll have to send another shuttle up early…”

With another expert touchdown, Jake would let out a breath as the tension of flight was soon replaced with the stress of hearing the howling winds and rain the moment the ramp opened up behind him. Uh oh! “Hey- USS Eventide!” Kiadras quickly went to meet the group, holstering his tricorder once more, “How many injured? We can only send up some of you on this shuttle right now!”

Kya gasped as she looked towards the group, and she knew they wouldn’t be able to carry them all, nor would they be able to leave and return so quickly, “The uh, transporter buffer trick. Would we be able to put some of them into the buffers?”

Grinning towards Lt. Cdr. Vrii, he would wink at her as she held up her pinkie. "I'm going to hold you to that, Commander!" Turning his attention back to the Andorian woman, Jake would be happy to see that she was ultimately stable for now but what limited medical knowledge he had told him that she would not stay that way for long. She needed to go up sooner than later. That is...until the massive group of civilians suddenly appeared and began to run to his shuttle. Quickly slamming the tricorder shut, the man went to the ramp to meet them all, quickly putting himself in front so he could try to maintain some kind of order while the Commanders came up with a plan. "Okay! Let's all just stay calm!" he would call out to the civilians.

One, after having helped secure the stretcher the Andorian woman was on, rushed out to help as well, realising any space they took up on the shuttle wasn't going to be filled by injured people. "We are not going to be experimenting with transporters during a severe storm while there are lives on the line. Hypothermics and currently open wounds have priority, anyone else will wait here while shuttles are moving."

The comms informing the group that help from the other ships was on the way helped to soothe Kiadras’s nerves, “Other ships are on the way! Please, anyone injured or hypothermic, go with Lieutenant One! Everyone will be leaving, I promise!”

What seemed to be reluctantly, the small mob of civilians stopped and formed a sort of semi-circle around the shuttle - when the precedent was set by One there was some minor outrage from them - particularly from the back of the crowd - but overall, people looked like they were complying. There were some heartfelt 'see you soon's' and 'I'll find you again's, and one by one the specified people stepped forward to get on the shuttle.

Jake would let out a small sigh of relief to see that despite the raging storm, there was still some level of order that they were able to achieve. Knowing that Lt. One was better qualified at medical than he was, he would turn towards them and say, "Pick out who you want to go up on this trip then please give me a head count. I need to do a weight check to make sure we can actually make it up with the conditions. I'll be at the conn." Smiling at all the officers for a brief moment, Jake would turn back to his console and move to sit down, preparing the ship for startup before pulling out his PADD and inputting numbers to calculate his shuttlecraft's performance.

Kya stood guard over the shuttle as she made sure everybody was able to get on. “Please be orderly everyone, more Starfleet is on the way to assist. You will be getting out of here.”

Complaining... about not being rescued immediately over the people who needed medical attention. One couldn't say they understood the sentiment, the equation having a clear answer in their mind. "Keep an eye on the shuttle weight and tell me to stop, Lieutenant. I will be staying down here for the time being, so I can keep loading people on." While saying this, One pointed at the first set of people, a family with young children who were clearly incredibly cold. They handed them emergency blankets, and motioned for them to get on board.

Sadhbh, who had totally been here this whole time because her player didn't have an hours long fight with a piece of code. Was beginning to scout the current landing area to see if there was enough space for shuttles from the two incoming ships to land safely, the last thing they needed right now was shuttles crashing into eachother because of too small a landing area.

Narrator BOT 02-Sep-24 09:40 PM
As the shuttle filled up, Sadhbh's search proved positive, nearby was the city's central plaza - which had more than enough space to fit as many shuttle as possible. Once the shuttle had been filled through weight limit, not physical space, the ramp closed and the shuttle was ready to take off.

“Alright everybody, let’s step back! We gotta let this shuttle take off!” Kiadras started to try and corral the group of civilians still on the ground away from the shuttle, “We’re gonna be safe and sound!”

Jake would watch closely as each person boarded. With each body, he ticked up the estimated weight until eventually, his calculations told him he was at his very limit. "That's enough!" he called out before ensuring the ramp was clear so he could close it. As the shuttle's ramp was close, Jake stood up from his chair to do one final scan of the cabin, making sure the most seriously wounded had seats and were secure while those who could stand knew where they could brace themselves for the flight ahead. "Okay, everybody. This might get a little bumpy but I promise, we are going to be okay." Returning to his seat, Jake looked out of his window, making sure his immediate front was clear before checking his systems to ensure his rear was also as clear as it was going to get before starting to take off. Knowing the airspace was about to get very busy with more shuttles, the Lieutenant would pull up on a secondary display a view of the air traffic so he could avoid them on the way back.

As the shuttle began to lift off, a bolt of lightning once again struck the skyscraper towering above the crowd - and once again sending debris flying down to the ground.

The lightning strike sent Sadhbh running for the nearest bit of shelter, unfortunately as she was standing in the middle of the plaza there wasent too much to choose from.

The crowd of Civilians, startled by the loud crack of thunder, first ducked then practically scattered, with most running towards the subway station that was nearby. Unfortunately for Sadhbh, who was caught more outside than others, was hit on the head by a tennis-ball sized piece of debris.

Down like a sack of potatoes Sadhbh went! The force from the impact knocked her to the ground causing her to loose consciousness for few moments, a red patch of blood began to appear on the top of her head where she had smacked her head against the EV helmet. (edited)

Sadhbh's body began to move with Five, her legs began to walk in a semi coordinated fashion which steadily became more regular as she began to come back to her senses. She had definitely taken a big enough bang to the head but classic symptoms of a bad concussion seemed to have stayed clear. "Ow!" Sadhbh finally managed to blurt out as she shaked her head to whisk away the last bits of unconciousness. (edited)

It’s a sudden mixture of emotions upon both noticing the commander having to be supported after getting hit with debris and also the rescue ships lighting up the sky. The moment she has a guarantee that Sadhbh is okay, she’d turn her head toward the sky and watch all the ships descending downward, “Everybody lives!!”

Teno had been in the background, doing as instructed, carrying people, digging, whatever was useful in the moment including helping Lt. Five to support the Commander! He looked up in awe as the large ships hovered overhead and made their way to the clearning. He couldn't help but let out a gasp, though probably inaudible to the rest of the people around him through the EV suit and over the noise of the landing ships. "Wow!" He exclaimed breathlessly.

She let out a breathless gasp as she looked up towards the ships began to descend. “Clear room for the shuttles to land!” She said, musing sure to hold her body in front of any glass if they were to come near the civilians. “Help is here, everyone!”

With the additional ships joining into the rescue effort, Jake couldn't help but hold an excited smile as he stared at the ships for a moment as the shuttle ascended back up to the Eventide. The man would never get over admiring a good starship. However, refocusing himself back on task, he would soon return to the Eventide's shuttlebay to drop off the people he had before turning back around and returning with the other shuttles. With more ships in the air, that meant he had to be a lot more careful and coordinated with his fellow pilots but a sense of order would soon be established as air traffic worked itself out with coordination of all the ships involved. Finding a landing spot, Jake would set his craft down and drop the ramp, hoping that maybe, this might be the last trip they needed to finish the evacuation.

Around Jake's shuttle, more craft began to land and take the mob of civilians to safety. One of them, presumably the commanding officer of the team walked over - the rain still pouring down around all of them. "Thank you for giving us the head start on this, we can tag you out now." He said, in a warm and friendly tone.
